Biology Minor Requirements:

Micropipetting RNA

Introductory Biology

  • Biology 40: Introductory Genetics
  • Biology 41C: Introductory Cell Chemistry and Cell Biology with Laboratory
  • Biology 41E: Introductory Ecological and Evolutionary Biology with Laboratory

Chemistry

  • Chemistry 1A,B: General Chemistry
    (or Chemistry 51: General Chemistry [accelerated])

Upper-division Biology Courses

  • Two upper-division laboratory or field courses

With prior written permission from the department chair, a student may receive credit toward the minor for one upper-division biology completed at another Claremont college or in a Study Abroad program.

Suggested First-year Schedule:

The Biology Department recommends that students interested in pursuing Biology for a major or minor take the following courses listed in the first year:

Fall Semester Spring Semester
Chemistry 1a or 51 Chemistry 1b
Math 30 or 31 Math 31 (following Math 30)
ID 1 Biology 40
Foreign language or other Gen Ed requirement Foreign language or other Gen Ed requirement

This first-year schedule is also desirable for students contemplating majors in Molecular Biology, Neuroscience or Biology/Public Policy Analysis.
